Multicultural Children’s Book Day Review! Ana and Andrew: A Day at the Museum
*I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review for Multicultural Children’s Book Day.
A new early chapter book series, written by Christine A. Platt and illustrated by Sharon Sordo, features siblings Ana and Andrew, as they travel with their family to learn about African American history.
This is a fabulous book- a perfect mix of learning important history and having a fun, exciting time doing it. Available in both English and Spanish.
Ana And Andrew live in Washington, DC with their parents, but have family in Savannah, Georgia and Trinidad, so there are always exciting places to visit to learn about African-American culture. In the first book of the series, A Day at the Museum, Ana and Andrew visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture with their grandmother. They learn about civil rights leaders and other influential African Americans. Other books in the series discuss the history of Carnival and the first Black church in America.
Platt is a believer in the power of storytelling as a tool for social change. Her award winning debut novel,The Truth About Awiti, is currently used in high schools, colleges and universities to teach the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
She is also working on another series, Sheroes: Real Wonder Women, which teaches young readers about extraordinary women, including Harriet Tubman, Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, and Sacagawea. Her website is www.christineaplatt.com
